Parallel
major and minor keys
Major and minor keys with the same tonic but with different
key signatures are called parallel
keys. Following are three
pairs of parallel keys:

Compositions sometimes switch back and forth
between parallel major and minor but keep the same tonic. This is
changing modes (not transposition, which would involve the change
of tonic).
Listen to the following melody first in
g minor (key signature of 2 flats), and then its parallel major,
G (key signature of 1 sharp).
Relative keys
share the same key signature , but have different
tonics.
